Classwork

Here are the materials we learned in class that helped us with our tourism ad project. 


GENRE

Genre: type or categories of movies, music, and any other entertainment media.

Genre Convention: the common features that are found in a specific genre.

Conform: follows the expectations 

Subvert: contrast the expectations

EXAMPLE

BASED ON THE MOVIE ABOVE

Genre: Action, Fantasy

Genre Convention: Heroes, villains, victims, fight scenes, stunts, love, kingdoms.

Audience: People ages 6 and above, teenagers, superhero lovers, comic readers.

Audience Appeal: these audiences are interested in seeing a line of superheroes, their own background stories, especially ones who have watched the superhero line such as Justice League. Younger audience might want to watch these kinds of movies to feel cool and increase their confidence and motivation. 

Mr Nick suggested us to watch this YouTube video to have a better understanding about different genres:



CAMERA

Camera Angles

  • Medium Shot: A standard shot, showing the subject from their waist.
  • Close Up: A close shot but not as specific as an extreme close shot.
  • Extreme Close Up: Showing a close shot on a specific part, features or expression.
  • Long Shot: A far shot of the subject full body.
  • Extreme Long Shot: An extreme far shot of the subject to show isolation.
  • High Angle: The camera is placed higher than the character to show weakness.
  • Low Angle: The camera is placed lower than the character to show power and dominance.
  • Over The Shoulders: The shot would be from behind a character's shoulder to show both characters.
  • POV: The angle is shown from someone or something's point of view.
  • Dutch Angle: A tilted diagonal angle, usually showing that the character isn't thinking straight.
  • Cowboy Shot: Usually used to show a powerful character, from mid-thigh to their head.
  • Establishing Shot: An extreme long shot, but with an object or building as its focus subject.
